Once upon a time, there lived an old lady who loved baking cookies.
One day, she made a gingerbread man with leftover dough and used cherry and raisins for his mouth and eyes.
When the old lady went to take him out of the oven, the gingerbread man jumped off of the tray and ran outside.
As he ran, he yelled, "Run! Run as fast as you can, you can't catch me because I'm the gingerbread man!"
The gingerbread man ran passed a cow. "You look delicious! I am going to eat you!" said the hungry cow.
The gingerbread man laughed, but didn't stop running.
"Come! Come catch me if you can! The old lady couldn't catch me and neither can you because I'm the gingerbread man!!" the little gingerbread man yelled over his shoulder.
Afterward , he passed a roaster, a horse and a pig who all wanted to eat the gingerbread man, but couldn't catch him because he was too fast.
Soon the gingerbread man came to a fast-flowing river. "I can't swim," said the gingerbread man.
All of a sudden a voice asked from behind, "Can I help you?" It was the sly fox that spoke.
The gingerbread man told the fox he couldn't swim, so the fox told him, "Jump on my back! I'll carry you across the river."
The gingerbread man gladly jumped on the fox's back.
As they were going deeper and deeper in the water, the fox said to the little gingerbread man, "Climb up to my nose my friend, so you won't get wet."
The gingerbread man did so again, but the sly fox quickly tossed him in the air and ate him.
When the old lady and all the animals finally arrived the riverbank, they only saw crumbs left in the water.
